Each week, we spotlight one yacht worth knowing. Not just for how it looks, but for how it changes the experience of where you are. This week, our chosen charter yacht is the totally iconic 73-metre Lürssen behemoth Coral Ocean, available for charter with Ahoy Club following its reentry to the market after a €35 million refit in 2022.

Seasoned superyacht fans are sure to have heard of Coral Ocean charter yacht (delivered in 1994 as one of the German shipyard’s largest projects at the time, and with lines penned by legendary Australian designer Jon Bannenberg). However, thanks to its growing Instagram presence – 12.4k followers at the time of writing – Coral Ocean charter yacht has garnered plenty of attention from far further afield since sailing back into public view.
Originally known by the name of Coral Island, Coral Ocean’s massive refit was managed by the Ahoy Club team at the STP shipyard in Mallorca after it was bought by the Australian entrepreneur Ian Malouf in 2019 (Ahoy Club’s founder). The boat was unveiled to the world once again at the 2022 Monaco Grand Prix.

While still respecting the all-important heritage of the boat, 73m Coral Ocean charter yacht went through a full, no-expense-spared, top-to-bottom transformation during its refit, with the Ahoy Club team rethinking and redesigning all of the spaces and systems on board to ensure that it could meet the standards and expectations of contemporary charter travellers.
Beginning with the obvious: Coral Ocean is a pretty big yacht. Although there are plenty of big hitter, much larger boats on the water which have been delivered since the 90s, at 72.54 metres, the boat still ranks in the top 5% of yachts by LOA (Length Overall) in the world. Charter yacht Coral Ocean is also pretty cool to witness and photograph from multiple angles, thanks to her extraordinary layout, which includes articulated levels on the top deck and an aft deck staircase.

‘Spot the difference’ enthusiasts would also enjoy looking at Coral Ocean charter yacht in 2022 and beyond, whose former yellow hull was replaced with a crisp white finish for a more modern profile during the works, which engaged a total of over 100 contractors, according to Ahoy Club.
Teaming up with London-based studio H2 Yacht Design, Ahoy Club and co gutted and rebuilt two and a half levels on the upper deck, boosted the volume by around 150GT and brought Coral Ocean’s interiors firmly into the 21st century, giving them a fresh and contemporary flavour.
Accommodation onboard
Still able to accommodate the same number of travellers as in 1994 (a total of 12), the styling on board Coral Ocean charter yacht is airy, bright and elegant, featuring white reflective surfaces, luxurious furnishings and subtle blue and green coral motifs. Whether you’re in the mood for a lavish sit-down meal or more relaxed alfresco dining under the stars, all options are available on the modernised Coral Ocean, thanks to the comprehensive rejigging of these spaces that took place.

The owner’s deck underwent a complete overhaul during the refit, with the master bedroom doubling in size. Stepping inside, you are likely to be impressed by its airiness, helped by the presence of two large skylight windows and panoramic windows offering 180-degree vistas from the bed. Lucky inhabitants of the master bedroom can also enjoy the infrared sauna, hair salon facilities and private lounge area, alongside its adjoining treatment room.
Here, wellness, health and nutrition reign. The yacht’s onboard beauty therapist can carry out a wide range of treatments, including body scrubs, hydrafacials, LED light therapy, manicures, eyebrow and eyelash tinting and much more.

Indeed, for the majority of today’s travellers, spa and relaxation time are non-negotiable elements of the charter experience, and there’s plenty of this to be enjoyed on Coral Ocean charter yacht, beyond that found in the master bedroom. The sundeck received ample attention during the refit works, undergoing a total overhaul and ending up equipped with a sky lounge, a spa pool with glass floor, spacious loungers and even its own indoor bar complete with full-length retractable glass windows, so that travellers no longer have to choose between enjoying the inside or outside.
Coral Ocean’s relaxation offering also includes a waterside beach club spa, complete with a sauna and mosaic-tiled Hammam. Fancy an ocean dip after? Easily done: direct access is available via the adjacent swim platform outside the transom door.

Particularly known for chartering across the Mediterranean, wherever you are in the world, Coral Ocean is also great for exercise buffs, with the indoor/outdoor gym set up complete with a Peloton, Fitbench, rowing machine and treadmill, all angled so that you can enjoy sea views at the same time.
Finally, in this Coral Ocean superyacht charter review, it also passes the all-important on-water ‘fun’ test with flying colours. The toy inventory includes Seabobs, fishing tackle, e-foiling boards, and many inflatables, from a huge water slide to a sea pool pontoon. The 8-metre RIB tender and 12-metre Pardo chase tender also make day trips away easy as pie.

Why charter Coral Ocean?
Chartering Coral Ocean is less about ticking boxes and more about settling into your unique rhythm. Despite her impressive scale, the yacht never feels overwhelming. Instead, the reimagined layout creates a natural flow and distance between spaces for travellers. In other words, you can be sociable on board, but you don’t have to be.

There is a quiet luxury in the way time is spent on board. Mornings might start slowly, with coffee and panoramic views from the master suite, before drifting into a spa treatment or a session in the sea-facing gym. Afternoons invite a change of pace: swimming straight from the beach club, heading out on the tenders, or making the most of the toy collection with the super-friendly crew.
