Welcome to the era of wellness on yachts. Whether it’s a wellness yacht charter, lighting up our phone screens with spirulina shakes or appearing in the latest Pilates studios on the high street, the wellness trend is everywhere in 2026. And it shows no signs of slowing down.
The global wellness economy reached $6.8 trillion in 2024 and is projected to grow to nearly $9.8 trillion by 2029, according to the Global Wellness Institute. For a sector built around delivering exceptional and highly custom guest experiences, it’s no surprise that the world of yacht charter has fully embraced this shift. What was once limited to occasional yoga sessions on deck or a sauna tucked below has evolved into something far more integrated.
Today, wellness on yachts shapes the rhythm of life on board. It influences everything from how guests move and relax to how they eat, sleep and recover between long days exploring coastlines and anchorages. Here are the wellness features increasingly shaping yacht charter experiences in 2026 and beyond.
The Rise of the Wellness Yacht Charter
According to Dawn MacPhee, charter yacht broker and charter manager at Palma-based SNS Yacht Charter, a growing number of travellers are now actively seeking wellness-focused yacht charters. These guests often design their entire trip around wellbeing, selecting yachts with the right spaces and facilities while bringing specialist practitioners on board. “They are selecting yachts with the desired space and amenities and even adding fitness instructors, yoga and movement practitioners, and nutrition consultants into the mix for their time at sea,” she explains.

Rather than simply relaxing, the experience becomes something more intentional when it comes to the rise in wellness on yachts. “A wellness-focused charter becomes more of a glow-up or self-care experience, rather than just a chance to unwind as we traditionally think of time spent onboard.”
Dedicated gyms and expanding wellness spaces
This shift in guest priorities is also influencing yacht design itself when it comes to wellness charter experiences. Edward Thomas, founder and director of Gym Marine, has seen firsthand how wellness facilities have expanded across new builds and refits.
“We’ve seen gyms growing enormously,” he says, speaking of yacht wellness features that have become increasingly popular in recent years. “They’ve gone from a couple of bits of equipment on the sun deck to entire dedicated rooms.” In some cases, wellness spaces now occupy entire decks. “A yacht we are currently working on has a gym that covers the whole top deck, flanked forward and aft with a Jacuzzi and cold plunge. Some boats even have two spa areas: one on the waterline and another wellness area on the sundeck.”
Wellness on yachts no longer feels like an add-on feature but a core part of the superyacht charter experience.
Personalised nutrition and the evolution of wellness on yachts
Food remains one of the most important parts of life on board a yacht, and wellness is increasingly shaping how chefs approach menus. Titta Uoti-Väisänen, founder of Superyacht Foodie and a former superyacht chef, says guest expectations around nutrition have evolved dramatically.
“People understand their health now in a way they simply did not a few years ago,” she explains. “Access to health testing and information through podcasts and media means guests arrive with a much clearer understanding of what their bodies need.” Requests that once focused on simple dietary preferences have become far more nuanced.
A few years back, wellness requests tended to mean dairy-free options or avoiding carbohydrates. Now conversations are much more specific. Guests are thinking about inflammation, gut health and how food will make them feel for the rest of the day.Titta Uoti-Väisänen
Her team has sourced everything from functional mushroom coffees and Arctic berry powders to sea buckthorn, hemp crackers and even reindeer for adventurous charter guests.
Chef Marvin Woods – who has cooked for Barack and Michelle Obama and is currently working aboard the 43-metre motor yacht Cabo – also prioritises a health-focused approach to cooking. However, he remains sceptical of mass-produced wellness trends.

“I’ve always believed that food can be medicine,” he says. “But whole foods and simple preparation are still the best approach. I’m cautious of products pushed by large corporations claiming to be ‘functional foods’.”
Circadian lighting and the science of sleep at sea
One of the most significant wellness developments on board yachts is something many guests may barely notice: lighting. Michael Meeneghan of MP Tech Solutions has partnered with manufacturers to develop circadian-friendly lighting systems designed specifically for yachts.
These systems use full-spectrum LEDs that mimic natural daylight, gradually shifting from blue-rich morning light to warmer tones in the evening. The goal is simple: to support the body’s natural sleep-wake cycle. This is particularly valuable on yachts, where guests may cross time zones or spend extended periods indoors. The company has also developed flicker-free LED lighting, which can reduce stress levels on board.
“Flicker-free LEDs eliminate rapid light modulation that can subtly overstimulate the nervous system,” Meeneghan explains. “Even when flicker isn’t visible to the naked eye, it can raise our baseline stress levels.”
Removing that flicker creates a calmer onboard environment, benefiting both neurotypical and neurodivergent guests. “With that hidden flicker removed, people often experience more stable energy throughout the day and feel less wired by evening.”
Why wellness yacht charters are on the rise
Wellness on yachts has clearly moved far beyond short-lived trends or occasional activities. For many travellers today, chartering a yacht offers something unique: complete control over their environment. Guests can shape their days around movement, rest and exploration. They can choose the pace of their itinerary, the food they eat and the atmosphere around them – all without the constraints of schedules or crowds.
In that sense, the modern wellness yacht charter isn’t just about gyms, spas or nutrition plans. It’s about autonomy. For many travellers, that freedom – to design a journey that supports their physical and mental wellbeing – is where the real luxury lies.
