Mangroves close in around you, dense and quiet, the channels winding in a way that feels instinctive rather than mapped. You stop thinking about where you’re going quite quickly. It becomes less about navigation and more about slowing down enough to notice what’s around you.
If you time it right, and your captain usually will, you can drift with the outgoing tide rather than against it. At the far end, the creek opens out into a wide sandbank where the current flows gently, creating something that feels deliciously akin to a natural lazy river.
